Call for Papers: State Crime and Colonialism

The editors of State Crime (Journal of the International State Crime Initiative) invite papers for a special issue on State Crime and Colonialism (v. 7, no. 2, Nov. 2018). Submissions are due by September 30, 2017.

This special issue seeks to explore the relationships between state crime and colonialism. This includes the historical experiences of European colonialism and empire; settle colonialism and its ongoing impacts on Indigenous peoples; and the continuities of colonial violence. The aim is to develop dialogues on how understandings of state crime might further be developed and reformulated beyond contemporary human rights paradigms.

Call for Papers: Third Business and Human Rights Scholars Conference

The Third Business and Human Rights Scholars Conference will be held September 15-16, 2017, at Santa Clara University.  Conference participants will present and discuss scholarship at the intersection of business and human rights issues.  Upon request, participants’ papers may be considered for publication in the Business and Human Rights Journal (BHRJ), published by Cambridge University Press.

Abstracts are due March 15, 2017.

Call for Papers: Human and Fundamental Rights

Revista Dereito UFMS (UFMS Law Review) (Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul) invites authors of the legal community to submit scientific papers and critical reviews for its next edition.  The deadline is April 4, 2017.

It welcomes submissions on different theoretical and practical perspectives on the main theme of “Human and Fundamental Rights.” In this sense, it accepts contributions that identify these rights and the way in which they are materialized, in relation to the concepts and dimensions of freedom, equality, solidarity, citizenship, democracy and social justice, as well as the analysis of the various legal, social and political mechanisms that guarantee these rights at the national and international levels.

Call for Papers: Utrecht Journal of International and European Law

Utrecht Journal of International and European Law is issuing a call for papers to be published in its 85th edition in the summer of 2017 on ‘General Issues’ within international and European law.

The Board of Editors invites submissions addressing any aspect of international and European law; topics may include, but are not limited to, European Union law, International and European Human Rights Law, International and European Criminal Law, Transnational Justice, Family Law, Health and Medical Law, Children’s Rights, Commercial Law, Media Law, Law of Democracy, Taxation, Comparative Law, Competition Law, Employment Law, Law of the Sea, Environmental Law, Indigenous Peoples, Land and Resources Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, or any other relevant topic.

Symposium: Regional Human Rights Systems in Crisis

The Wisconsin International Law Journal will host its annual symposium, this year titled Regional Human Rights Systems in Crisis on March 31, 2017.

Some themes that may be addressed include:

  • Political stand-offs in the more well-developed systems: Brexit, the European Union and the Council of Europe System, the Inter-American Commission in crisis; the African Union versus the International Criminal Court
  • The challenges of constructing regional human rights in Asia and the Middle East
  • The pros and cons of the state liability model in facing issues of migration; terrorism; corporate liability; transboundary harm, internet privacy, international crimes
  • Human Rights versus Buen Vivir, Occupy, religions, and other discourses concerned with social, political, and legal justice
  • Universal (UN-based) versus regional human rights protection

Call for Papers: “50 Years after 1967: Evaluating the Past, Present and Future of the Law of Belligerent Occupation”

The Minerva Center for Human Rights at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University, the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Israel and the Occupied Territories and the Emile Zola Chair for Human Rights at the College of Management Academic Studies are organizing an international conference that seeks to evaluate – 50 years after 1967 – the past, present and future of the law of belligerent occupation, using the Israel-Palestine context, as well as other relevant situations of occupation and domination, as case studies.

1-2 page proposals must be submitted with a CV by January 15, 2017 to the Minerva Center for Human Rights at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (mchr@savion.huji.ac.il).

Call for Papers: 2017 Equality in Education Symposium

The University of New Brunswick Faculty of Law presents the 2017 Equality in Education Symposium February 24-25, 2017.

The symposium aims to explore the rights, obligations, opportunities and challenges that inform and impact learners, parents of learners, educators, school administrators, educational services providers, lawyers and other advocates in the pursuit of equitable access to education. Proposals for papers and Powerpoint presentations are invited from academics, community or professional partners, and students.

Paper abstracts and proposals are due January 7, 2017.
